When her beloved grandmother died, 15-year-old Candice Milner decided she wanted to find a way to help support other people battling cancer. "I wrote the song Helping Hands spontaneously'. I want to get the song out there to fundraise for CanTeen and the Cancer Society and raise awareness.''
If her song achieves one thing, she hopes it brings people together. ''I didn't want to just write it and not have any purpose come out of it.''
Candice emailed producer Kevin Allison at Angels Gate Recording Studio and asked if he could help her make her song. He offered to record her song for free. ''This all wouldn't have happened otherwise,'' she says,
CanTeen, which supports young people aged between 13 and 24 living with cancer, are impressed with Candice's song. ''It's a generous gesture,'' says CanTeen youth worker Jason Flewellen.
''CanTeen is a peer support organization so it's great to see someone her age supporting people her age with cancer.'' Candice is donating the proceeds from the sale of her song to CanTeen.
Special thanks to producer Kevin Allison, guitarist Tyler Brown, video by Rush Joplin, Vicki Anderson of The Press and CanTeen for their support with the project.
